Designing
Transmission of high fidelity audio signals via alternating high voltage and high current is every designer's nightmare. Highest to lowest frequency ratio spans 10 octaves. This is a unique case in electrical engineering.
Making audible span response linear and flat is no easy task. In addition, one has to keep both low and high rolloffs well below and above audible limits. This hopefully keeps phase shifts away from detectable range of ear-brain.
AIReference by YELLOW cable design solution is helixing multiple conductors in empty space. This cable geometry has multiple advantages when applied to powerful transmissions of audio frequency signals.
Easy to say, not easy to do. Why trouble? That one is easy: Empty space (i.e. vacuum) is the best dielectric to fill the space between conductors with. Vacuum not being available here for obvious reasons, YELLOW design uses AIR.
Now, filling inter-conductor space with only air does result with agreeable cable electric properties, but, empty air will not support conductor space geometry for obvious lack of mechanical properties.
What YELLOW cable design came up with, is the hinged structure like flexible spine, where conductors are hellicaly threaded through individual vertebrae.
All the added parts, the vertebrae, the conductor surface protection, the cable sleeve, have worse dielectrics properties than air. This is unavoidable. So we keep addons at minimum volume.
Last but definitely not least, conductors design has to avoid having skin effects cause large phase-by-frequency shifts. So, surface plating with high conductance stuff is not allowed. So, limited conductor strand diameters keep core-to-surface signal propagation speed differences at acceptable levels.
What to use? Best copper conductance is inferior to silver, but allows somewhat larger diameters, at acceptable skinning levels. Compromises, compromises..
Developing
Towards the end of '24 the development have been at work on the AIReference cable build solution for about a year. The production were at the second generation design stage at the time of writing this. Our sales offer the basic 6ft cable pair at the price tag digit count of three. This is order of magnitude below other similar products we can match or better at performance.
We did some A/B testing against competing cables with four or more price tag digit counts. We have bettered the peformance each time. The A/B outcome is partly subjective of course. Each speaker cable ever offered to audiophile community, more-or-less had its own sound signature. And then there are personal preferences. But after all, no one ever considered second generation AIReference cables inferior to compared product. Most parties thought AIREferences were neutral, with no personality, no sound signature.
Suiting
AIReference by YELLOW cables suit high resolution systems best. It is advisable to use good monoblocks placed close to speakers for power. Speaker cables should be short. Best aproach to compensating preamplifier distance is via extending interconnect lengths as needed. Balanced interconnects offer best common-mode noise suppression.
One should avoid large reflective surfaces. Especialy in-between the speakers. Any reflective surface tends to deform the sound spatial image speakers create. Best corrective option is some sound dispersing screen. When listening space is used for viewing videos and critical listening both, setting up a mobile sound dispersing wall is acceptable.
Ordering
There is no stock of finished cables at this time. We build and ship each cable pair to order. To place order please contact us at YELLOW by any means listed in contact section at the bottom. We will reply earliest possible shipping date. Date depends on parts stock. When all pats are on stock, building a cable pair takes a few days up to a week.
We have one assembly line now, so multiple cable build times add sequentialy. First order will be assembled first, of course. We will ramp up our production next, and add more assembly lines as the order numbers grow.
If the delivery date suits, please confirm. Our shipping will issue the invoice with partial down payment. The invoice details the ordered items, the delivery date, the down payment, and the the balance due at shipping time. Upon receiving the down payment, the production will commence the build.
At the ready-to-ship time the shipping will notify you. The order will ship within 24 hours of receiving the due ballance.
Shipping
We box each cable separately, and ship by pair. Box and fillings are nature friendly and recyclable. Any carrier providing pick up at our facility is acceptable.
Our own preference is DHL. Cat shall be removed prior to shipping.
